I rode this leg with my cousin Kekoa, who drove up to meet me the night before. While we were riding up, a large bear bounded across the road about 100 yards ahead of us. We didn't see any baby bears, and figured we could turn and ride downhill if it came back (we were on a steep part and were travelling about 5 mph), so we decided to continue.
